A 60-year-old woman from the Voznesensk district lost almost half a million hryvnias after turning to fraudsters posing as human rights activists. The police have already launched an investigation and are working to identify the perpetrators.
This was reported by the press service of the National Police.
The police are investigating a case of fraud in which a resident of Voznesensk district lost almost half a million hryvnias to "Internet specialists".
A 60-year-old woman from the Prybuzka community appealed to the Voznesensk District Police Department No. 2. According to her, while watching a video on one of the social media platforms, she asked for help with her son's legal issues.
After a while, she started receiving calls from unknown people who introduced themselves as human rights activists and specialists in helping men of military age. They assured the woman that they could help her son for a certain monetary reward.
Agreeing to the offer of one of the "specialists" and later to the offer of the second one, when the first one stopped contacting her, the woman transferred UAH 495 thousand to the fraudsters' accounts.
As a result, the police initiated criminal proceedings on the fact of fraud (Part 4 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). This article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for up to eight years.
Law enforcement officers are currently taking measures to identify the persons involved in the crime and bring them to justice.
Also in Mykolaiv, law enforcement officers detained a TCC employee and his accomplice who were extorting money from relatives of mobilized persons. In exchange for USD 4.5 thousand, the criminals promised to resolve the issue with TCC officials to allow the mobilized persons to return home.
Recently, a corruption scheme among officials who received bribes for declaring citizens unfit for service during mobilization was uncovered. Three suspects, including a police officer and a TCC official, were chosen as a measure of restraint in the form of detention with the possibility of bail.
