The Prymorskyi District Court of Odesa approved an agreement between the prosecutor and the former head of the emergency surgery department of the clinic of the Military Medical Clinical Center of the Southern Region on the doctor's plea of guilty to influence peddling.

According to the Center for Public Investigations, citing the court's verdict, under the Criminal Code, the doctor faced either a fine of two thousand to five thousand five hundred tax-free minimum incomes or imprisonment for a term of two to five years.

Under the agreement, the doctor pleaded guilty and got off with a fine of 5,200 tax-free minimum incomes, which is UAH 88,400, almost equal to the amount of the bribe he received.

What happened before

In early June 2025, the doctor was talking on the phone with a military man. During the conversation, he told his interlocutor that he had to bribe the doctor to influence the decision-making of an orthopedic traumatologist at the trauma department of the Trauma and Orthopedics Clinic of the Military Medical Clinical Center of the Southern Region. The orthopedist would then produce the necessary medical documents for further recognition of the soldier as fit for service in military units supporting territorial recruitment and social support centers, training centers, medical units, logistics, communications, operational support or security units.

The defendant valued this service at 2 thousand dollars, which as of June 7, 2026, amounts to 88.5 thousand hryvnias. Although at the time of receipt it was less - UAH 82,457. The doctor received this money in October 2025.
