The renovation of the facade of a lyceum in Odesa region resulted not only in a new building, but also in a criminal sentence for the contractor. The court found that the director of the construction company had overstated the scope of work and received hundreds of thousands of hryvnias from the budget for work that did not exist.
This was reported by the press service of the Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office.
In Odesa region, a court has sentenced the director of a private construction company who was accused of fraud with budget funds during the renovation of a lyceum. After the trial, the official was found guilty of embezzlement and forgery.
According to the prosecutor's office, in 2024, the village council of the Bereziv district announced a tender for the overhaul of the facade of the local lyceum. The winner was a private construction company with which the education department had entered into a contract.
According to the investigation, the company's director entered false information about the work performed in official documents. In the reporting acts, he indicated work that was not actually carried out, and also significantly overstated the cost of repairs - more than twice the actual amount.
Based on these documents, the education department transferred funds to the company. As a result, the community suffered more than UAH 250 thousand in damages.
As Intent wrote, the director of the private enterprise was notified of suspicion of forgery and embezzlement of public funds in January.
The court found the director guilty of misappropriation of property and forgery. He was sentenced to 5 years in prison with a probationary period of 3 years, and banned from holding managerial positions and entering into contracts with the authorities for three years.
The defendant pleaded guilty and was fully compensated for the damage.
Also in April, investigators in Odesa region uncovered a possible scheme to embezzle budget funds during the construction of a shelter and repairs to canteens. According to the investigation, more than 100 million could have been "mastered" through dubious contracts and inflated prices for materials.
