Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation have completed a pre-trial investigation into an Odesa law enforcement officer who, together with his accomplices, extorted money from people of retirement age by posing as a bank security officer.
According to the SBI press service, the indictment has been sent to court.
The defendant acted together with six civilians. The materials on them have been allocated to a separate criminal proceeding. The criminals found contacts of people of retirement age and called them, posing as bank security officers. Under the pretext of protecting their accounts, they asked for confidential data, after which they withdrew money from the victims' accounts via mobile payment applications and divided it among themselves.
As a result of these actions, six pensioners from Kyiv and Cherkasy regions lost over UAH 300 thousand. The law enforcement officer has now been dismissed from the service. He is accused of fraud. The sanction of the article provides for up to 8 years in prison.
In January, officers of the State Bureau of Investigation, with the assistance of the National Police's internal security units, exposed a law enforcement officer who, along with his accomplices, was extorting money from pensioners by posing as a bank security officer. Last year, the Bureau documented the criminal activity of the suspect in six episodes of fraud.
The indictment in that criminal proceeding was also sent to court. Despite this, the law enforcement officer did not stop his illegal activities and continued to defraud citizens. In the course of further pre-trial investigation, SBI officers uncovered two new episodes of fraud. The offender acted in collusion with civilians, whose materials were separated into separate criminal proceedings.
