On December 5, the first routes under the 3000 km of Ukraine program were launched in Ukraine.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development, the program is intended to provide additional support to residents of frontline areas and launch systematic state funding for passenger rail transportation. At the first stage, the program focuses on routes to and from frontline communities.

"3000 km of Ukraine" program launched

Starting December 3, up to four trips totaling 3,000 kilometers can be booked in the Ukrzaliznytsia app. Free tickets for available seats will be available in reserved seats, compartments, regional trains and Intercity class 2 on 24 routes, which will be updated. Currently, the program does not cover the premium segment (SV and 1st class).

How do I buy a ticket for kilometers?

  1. Update or install the Ukrzaliznytsia app. Your account must be verified through Diia.Signature.
  2. In the application, click on the "3000" mark and "Participate".
  3. Select the train marked "3000". The ticket price is automatically covered from the bonus kilometer account.

The press service noted that no additional funds are allocated from the state budget for this program. In particular, compensators are provided for Ukrzaliznytsia to receive additional income, including dynamic pricing in the premium segment. In the first quarter of 2026, a mechanism is to be created to compensate for the difference between affordable passenger fares and the real cost of transportation.

How it will work:

  • Every Ukrainian will be able to issue up to 4 free tickets in the Ukrzaliznytsia app for a total distance of up to 3,000 km.
  • For each child, it will also be possible to issue up to 4 free tickets for a total distance of up to 3,000 km
  • The trains for which free tickets will be available will be marked in the UZ app with a corresponding plate. The number of required kilometers for this route will also be indicated.
  • People who need help with free tickets will be able to get it through the organization's assistant

The routes for the pilot launch were determined based on an analysis of train occupancy, with a special emphasis on the needs of residents of frontline regions. It is noted that this will stimulate travel for those Ukrainians for whom the key is an affordable fare, not the duration of the trip, and partially relieve peak periods of transportation.

Important to know:

  • A ticket can only be issued for yourself and your child. It is not possible to issue a ticket for adult relatives or friends.
  • Children over 5 years old also get their own 3000 km ticket. To do this, they must be added to your account in Diia (upload a birth certificate).
  • Under the program, seats are available in reserved seats, compartments, regional trains and Intercity 2nd class.
  • The program covers only the cost of travel. Bed, tea, transportation of animals, luggage and other additional services are paid separately.
  • Kilometers cannot be monetized, they are valid only for travel.
  • 3,000 kilometers do not have to be used in December 2025. In December 2025, Ukrzaliznytsia will offer the largest number of seats primarily during the low season (January, February, October, November).
  • The unused balance of 3,000 kilometers across Ukraine can later be converted into bonus "hugs" in the Iron Friends loyalty program. This functionality will be available in the company's app in 2026. It will be announced later.
