Stateless, without documents and rights - how to solve the problem of Moldovans in the border areas of the region

"Stateless, undocumented and without rights - how to solve the problem of Moldovans in the border areas of Odesa region?"

The roundtable is organized by the Odesa regional organization of the NGO "Committee of Voters of Ukraine" with the aim of public discussion and drawing attention to the problems of legalization of Moldovan nationality in the north of Odesa region, who have been legally living in Ukraine for about 20 years as whole families without identification documents (passports, birth certificates, identification numbers) and properly registered ownership of housing, respectively, and are completely limited in the realization of socio-economic, cultural and cultural rights and the right to

Program of the round table:

1. Problems with obtaining Ukrainian citizenship and issuing identification documents for the Moldovan population of Kotove and Krasnooknyansky districts, their scale and peculiarities (presentation by Serhiy Merzlyakov, chief specialist of the Kotove Interdistrict Department of Justice, discussion).

2. Legal possibilities of obtaining Ukrainian citizenship and paperwork for the Moldovan population of Kotovsk and Krasnooknyansky districts: analysis of practice, recommendations (presentation by lawyer Oleksiy Tsurkan, discussion).

3) Facilitated and non-discriminatory procedure for obtaining a Ukrainian passport for special categories of citizens: prospects for implementation (discussion).

The roundtable will be attended by representatives of the migration service, justice, regional state administration, consular offices of the Republic of Moldova in Odesa, experts, public figures, and journalists. Also invited to the event are several residents of the border districts of Odesa Oblast who have experienced firsthand the problems of acquiring Ukrainian citizenship, inaction and unwillingness of the relevant authorities to resolve the problems that have arisen.
