How to Draw Up a European Protocol Online in Ukraine to Simplify

A traffic accident is hardly a pleasant event. It is all the more important to minimize its consequences. Today, in Ukraine, you can do without waiting for the police and communicating with the authorities. For this purpose, there is a convenient tool - the European protocol, which can be used online.

What is a European protocol?

The European protocol is a simplified scheme for registering a road traffic accident (RTA) without calling the police. It allows participants to record the environment of the accident and draw up the necessary documents for insurance payments.

How to correctly draw up a European protocol

The E-Ukraine website states that the following conditions are required to draw up a Europrotocol

• there are no injured (dead) people;
• the drivers involved in the accident have motor vehicle liability policies;
• there is a consent of the drivers of the vehicles involved in the accident regarding its circumstances;,
• the drivers have no signs of alcohol, drugs or other intoxication or being under the influence of medications.

If at least one of the above conditions is not met, a call to the relevant unit of the National Police to register the accident is mandatory.

Additional conditions for the use of the Electronic Europrotocol system:

• the vehicles involved in the accident must have valid domestic insurance policies. If any vehicle is covered by a foreign insurer's policy, it is necessary to use a paper Europrotocol form or call the police;
• drivers must carry serviceable mobile phones with a camera and Internet access.
• Identification data on the insured (INPP or EDRPOU codes) and the secured vehicle (license plate, make and model) must be specified in the policy and correctly entered into MTIBU's single centralized database.

If drivers have used the European protocol, they

• have the right to leave the accident scene;
• are exempt from the obligation to inform the relevant unit of the National Police of Ukraine about the occurrence of an accident;
• are exempt from administrative liability for causing an accident.

Is it possible to draw up a European protocol online?

Yes, today the European protocol can be filled out online through the Diia app or specialized platforms of insurance companies. The online format reduces the processing time and ensures the exchange of information with insurers almost instantly.

How to draw up a Europrotocol

Stop the car and mark the place of the accident.

Check the condition of all participants.

Take photos of the damage and the situation.

Fill out an electronic form (or paper form).

Sign the form and confirm your actions with an electronic digital signature (if filling out online).

Send the document to the insurers.
