In Odesa region, a mother was sentenced to 10 years in prison for beating her one-and-a-half-year-old son, which led to his death. The court confirmed that the child suffered numerous injuries, and the woman did not provide medical care.

This was reported by the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office at .

The court considered a case of domestic violence in which a mother inflicted severe injuries on her young son, which resulted in his death.

Prosecutor of the Berezovsk District Prosecutor's Office Oleksandr Arsenyuk noted that during the investigation the accused pleaded guilty, but in court she denied any involvement, claiming that the child had allegedly fallen out of bed.

"The guilt of the accused is fully confirmed by a number of evidence, in particular, the results of the investigative experiment, expert testimony, as well as witness testimony," added Arsenyuk.

According to the investigation, in April 2025, the accused was at home with her one and a half year old son. Irritated by his crying, she hit the child several times in the face and neck, and squeezed his head and face, trying to stop the crying. As a result, the baby suffered a severe closed head injury.

Experts also found old fractures of the humerus and ulna, indicating previous injuries. The child's condition was deteriorating, with a high fever and signs of severe brain damage, but the mother did not seek medical attention. Only two days later, the boy was hospitalized, but he died.

The 27-year-old woman was found guilty and sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Such cases are not uncommon. For example, in Odesa, a 2.5-month-old girl ended up in intensive care because she was severely beaten by her own father. A man also beat his two-year-old son. Law enforcement officers found out that the 27-year-old father was irritated and beat his daughter every time she cried, thus "calming" her. The child's health was getting worse, and the mother called an ambulance. According to the 24-year-old woman, she was afraid to stand in her husband's way.
