As a result of the hostilities, the nature reserve fund of the Kherson region has suffered damages totaling more than 1 trillion 133 billion hryvnias. In nature conservation areas, damage to and destruction of vegetation, disruption of natural habitats, the death of wildlife, and other irreversible changes to ecosystems have been recorded.

This was reported by the State Environmental Inspectorate of the Southern District.

As of early July 2026, the damage inflicted on the land resources of the Kherson region as a result of Russia’s armed aggression exceeded 17.9 billion hryvnias. The soil is littered with debris from missiles, artillery shells, construction materials, and other waste resulting from the destruction.

The materials prepared by experts and the results of their calculations were forwarded to law enforcement agencies for use in relevant criminal proceedings.

Previously,record-breaking tree growth rates were observed at the site of the Kakhovka Reservoir. During a July expedition, scientists from the environmental protection group once again documented the incredible pace of natural recovery at the former Kakhovka Reservoir. The largest young willow tree found is already 13 cm in diameter.

Scientists emphasize that the processes currently taking place at thesite of theformer Kakhovka Reservoir are of great significance to science. Observing this natural recovery will help us better understand how ecosystems regenerate after large-scale disasters.
