The Verkhovna Rada has appealed to governments and parliaments of foreign countries to recognize the deportation of Crimean Tatars from Crimea in 1944 as an act of genocide against the Crimean Tatar people.

This was stated by Parliament Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk on his Facebook page.

In particular, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada noted that on the eve of the Third Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimean Platform he met with a delegation of representatives of the Crimean Tatar diaspora in Turkey and Romania.

Ruslan Stefanchuk thanked them for their visit to Ukraine, which is evidence of the Crimean Tatar diaspora's continued support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The speaker emphasized that Ukraine has always demonstrated a special attitude towards the Crimean Tatar people, who have the official status of an indigenous people in our country.

The post says that it is extremely important to hold summits of the Crimean Platform - both at the level of heads of state and at the level of parliaments. The Third Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimean Platform will be held in Riga in two weeks.

During the meeting, the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada emphasized that the release of political prisoners - Kremlin prisoners and prisoners of war - is an extremely important issue for Ukraine.

As a reminder, the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people criticized the proposal of Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski to place Crimea under a UN mandate and holda "fair referendum" there.

The position of the organization was expressed on the official Facebook page of the Mejlis Chairman Refat Chubarov.

The post emphasizes that such statements are unacceptable and cynical. They do not meet either the national interests of Ukraine or the rights and interests of the indigenous Crimean Tatar people.

"The Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people considers such statements unacceptable and cynical. They do not meet either the national interests of Ukraine or the rights and interests of the indigenous Crimean Tatar people of Ukraine," the Presidium of the Mejlis said in a statement.

The Presidium of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people emphasized that the restoration of the territorial integrity of Ukraine, the violated rights and freedoms of Ukrainian citizens in the occupied territories "should be based on the national legislation of Ukraine and international law."

"According to the national legislation of Ukraine and international law, only citizens of Ukraine and persons who have legally registered their permanent or temporary stay on the Ukrainian territory, which is confirmed in accordance with the procedure established by Ukrainian law, are "legal residents" of Crimea. Therefore, any other attempts to establish the legality of a person's residence in Ukrainian Crimea are unnecessary and inappropriate," the statement said.
