According to the press service, Lieutenant Marzoyev was the son of Lieutenant General Arkady Marzoyev, commander of the 18th Combined Arms Army of the Southern Military District of the Russian Federation, who is involved in war crimes against the civilian population of Ukraine in Kherson.

The lieutenant general of the Russian Armed Forces, 55-year-old Arkady Marzoev, is suspected by law enforcement officers of leading the occupation of Kherson region. Marzoev's actions led to the death and injury of many people, as well as the destruction and damage to hundreds of civilian objects.

In July 2025, the SBU collected evidence of the involvement of five Russian military commanders in artillery shelling of civilian targets in the liberated part of the Kherson region, which led to the deaths of more than a hundred civilians. The investigation established that from January to October 2023, these commanders directed targeted artillery strikes on residential buildings, schools, hospitals and important infrastructure in the right-bank part of the region.

Based on the evidence collected, the SBU served these five individuals with war crimes notices in absentia. The press service emphasized that each of the suspects will be found and brought to justice.
