Two residents of Kherson were sentenced to 14 and 15 years in prison for voluntarily working for a law enforcement agency illegally established by the occupying authorities during the city’s capture.
This was reported by the Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
The court sentenced a 33-year-old man to 14 years in prison and a 28-year-old man to 15 years. Both were also barred from holding positions in state authorities, local government, and law enforcement agencies for 15 years. Their property is subject to confiscation.
According to the prosecutor’s office, the first defendant voluntarily joined the so-called “Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kherson Region” no later than July 2022. He assumed the position of “acting duty officer of the headquarters’ duty unit.”
The second defendant applied for a job with the illegal law enforcement agency in August 2022. He was appointed as a “post police officer (building security) in the ‘Dniprovsky’ Police Department of the Kherson City Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs under the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kherson Region.”
Thus, during the occupation of Kherson, both voluntarily agreed to work for an illegal law enforcement agency and performed the official duties assigned to them.
The sentences were handed down in absentia. The term of imprisonment will be calculated from the moment the convicts are actually detained and the sentences are enforced.
A special pre-trial investigation was conducted by the Melitopol Territorial Office of the State Bureau of Investigation and the Security Service of Ukraine in the Kherson Region.
