The cases of two former prosecutors from Crimea who headed the occupation authorities have been referred to court. The defectors face up to 15 years in prison for treason.
This was reported by the Prosecutor’s Office of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol.
The case files indicate that prior to the temporary occupation of the Crimean Peninsula, the defendants served as senior prosecutorof the city of Yalta and as prosecutor of one of the departments within the Office of the Prosecutor General of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea responsible for representing and defending the interests of citizens and the state in court.
In 2014, according to investigators, they continued to work in the illegally established prosecutor’s office, betraying their oath of allegiance to the Ukrainian people. One of the defendants headed the occupation prosecutor’s office of the Central District of Simferopol. He subsequently continued to advance his career in the prosecutor’s offices of the Bakhchysarai and Krasnogvardeisky districts, as well as in the city of Simferopol. Another defendant assumed the position of so-called senior assistant prosecutor of the city of Yalta.
The case file indicates that, in their positions, they were subordinate to the occupying authorities and carried out the duties assigned to them by those authorities. Thus, according to the investigation, the defendants assisted Russia and its representatives in carrying out subversive activities against Ukraine.
