Odesa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov has signed a decree appointing the director of the Department for Mobilization Training, Military Registration and Defense of the Odesa City Council.

The relevant order was published by the municipality' s press service.

In fact, the mayor transferred to this position Andriy Gerasymenko, who, before the creation of the department, headed the department of mobilization and defense work of the Odesa City Council.

During the session on April 16, Odesa city council members decided to create two new departments. One is the Department of Urban Development and Land Relations. Another department is the Department of Defense, Mobilization and Territorial Security.

It will be responsible for coordinating actions to maintain the city's defense capability, compiling lists of persons liable for military service and notifying them. According to Oleksandr Filatov, the new department will allow to better organize the city's work under martial law and to fulfill the new legislative requirements that provide for the transfer of some of the powers of territorial centers for recruitment and social support to local authorities.

46 deputies supported the decision, no one abstained, and one deputy did not take part in the voting.

Earlier, Odesa Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov also appointed an acting director of the new Department of Architecture, Urban Development and Land Relations of the Odesa City Council, who is also the city's chief architect. The department is temporarily headed by Nadiya Novikova, who was transferred by the mayor in March from the position of director of the Department of Land Resources to head the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning.
