In Odesa, a court has extended the arrest of a doctor suspected of a large-scale scheme to sell fictitious disabilities to evade mobilization. According to the investigation, the doctors took thousands of dollars for "necessary" diagnoses that allowed them to avoid service.
This was reported by Intent with reference to the ruling of the Peresypskyi District Court of Odesa.
The court extended the arrest for a trauma doctor suspected of creating a scheme to illegally issue disability certificates for men liable for military service. This is a doctor from the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi City Multidisciplinary Hospital who acted in collusion with his colleagues.
According to the investigation, he colluded with employees of the BDMH - a cardiologist who is a member of the third expert team and heads it in terms of cardiac diagnoses, as well as a senior nurse who acts as a registrar of this team.
According to the case, the suspect, together with a cardiologist and a nurse, organized a scheme to produce fake medical documents. For this, they demanded from clients from 3 to 5 thousand dollars. In exchange, the men received disability documents that allowed them to avoid mobilization.
One of the defendants in the case turned to law enforcement and cooperated with them. Under the control of the investigation, he transferred part of the money - first $1,400, and then another $700. After that, he was issued documents about the third group of disabilities, although there were no real grounds for this.
The investigation also found that similar "services" were provided repeatedly. In another episode, the doctor received $3,000 for a promise to issue fictitious medical reports for another man.
Law enforcers qualified the doctor's actions under several articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, including bribery and obstruction of the Armed Forces. The case also involves creating conditions for evasion of mobilization, which could have had a negative impact on the state's defense capability.
The judge agreed with the investigation's arguments that there were risks, including the possibility of escape, influence on witnesses, and continuation of criminal activity. At the same time, the court determined the possibility of bail in the amount of almost UAH 1 million. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
At the end of April, a court in Odesa seized property in a case of a scheme to issue fake medical documents to avoid mobilization. According to the investigation, doctors from both private and municipal medical institutions could have been involved.
