Top official from the Crimean Rosgvardia to be jailed for 15 years

(Collage: Intent)

15 years in prison for treason against Ukraine - the court announced the sentence to the head of the Crimean branch of the Russian Guard. He was tried under two articles.

According to the Ivano-Frankivsk regional prosecutor's office, the convict is 54 years old and comes from Alushta. After the occupation of Crimea, he voluntarily joined the occupiers. In 2017, he became the director of a branch of the so-called Okhrana enterprise, a structure controlled by the federal service of the Russian National Guard, known as the Rosgvardia. In fact, this is a security unit that actively helps Russia maintain the occupied territories.

In this position, the man was not just distinguished by his formal status - he concluded contracts with enterprises controlled by the occupiers, provided them with security, cooperated with the "authorities" of the Russian Federation in Crimea, represented the structure in Russian bodies and, according to the investigation, actively contributed to subversive activities against Ukraine.

Even after the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022, he did not leave the service and continued to work for the aggressor. This is why he was convicted of several articles - high treason and collaboration.

The court sentenced him to 15 years in prison with confiscation of all his property. He will serve his prison term immediately after his arrest, as the sentence was passed in absentia.

Earlier, three former judges from Crimea were sentenced in absentia. They were found guilty of high treason and sentenced to 12 and 13 years in prison respectively. One of them held the position of "judge of the Zaliznychny District Court of Simferopol", and the other two were "judges" in the occupation Kirovsky and Simferopol District Courts of the Republic of Crimea.

Also, a former deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of the AR of Crimea of the VI convocation, who in the spring of 2014 supported the decision of to hold a "Crimean referendum", was sentenced to 13 years in prison for treason.
