Charges have been filed against three former employees of correctional facilities in the Kherson region who, during the occupation, voluntarily defected to the enemy and worked in penal institutions.
This was reported by the State Bureau of Investigations.
According to the investigation, in the spring of 2022, the three former prison guards took positions at a pretrial detention center and a correctional colony illegally established by the occupiers.
One of the suspects managed shift schedules, organized cell searches, and supervised the guarding of inmates.
Another continued to work as the deputy warden of the pretrial detention center—but this time for the Russians.
The third defector maintained the technical and engineering security systems at the occupying forces’ “Northern Correctional Colony No. 90.”
In this way, the suspects helped the enemy establish and maintain the occupation’s punitive system in the Kherson region.
After the liberation of Kherson, all three fled to the temporarily occupied territory.
They were charged in absentia with high treason and collaboration. The penalties under these articles include life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
