The Ministry of Education has announced a competition for the position of rector at Odesa Polytechnic University

The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has announced a competition to fill the position of rector at the National University "Odessa Polytechnic." The election of the university's new rector is scheduled for November 4.

The corresponding order has been published on the Ministry of Education and Science’s website.

Minister of Education and Science Andriy Butenko signed the order on August 7, 2026. The decision was made in accordance with Article 42 of the Law of Ukraine “On Higher Education.”

According to the document, the Ministry’s Human Resources Department must publish the competition announcement on the ministry’s official website, organize the collection and review of applicants’ documents, and forward the candidates’ applications to Odessa Polytechnic National University.

In addition, the Ministry of Education and Science will provide the university with methodological recommendations on organizing the rector’s election in accordance with the law.

The election of the new rector of Odessa Polytechnic University is scheduled for November 4, 2026.

Gennadiy Oborsky has headed “Odessa Polytechnic” since 2010—meaning he has led the university continuously for 16 years. His contract expires on August 31, 2026.

Oborsky graduated from the Odessa Polytechnic Institute in 1976. Afterward, he held positions as an engineer, junior research fellow, and department assistant. Starting in 1990, he served as department chair, associate dean, and later dean of the Faculty of Mechanics and Technology at Odessa Polytechnic University.

From 1996 to 2000, he headed the Institute of Industrial Technologies, Design, and Management, and since 2000, he has served as vice rector for academic, scientific, and pedagogical activities, as well as personnel and economic affairs.

Earlier, Intent reported that in July 2026, at the age of 86, Valery Malakhov, former rector of Odessa Polytechnic University and an honorary citizen of Odessa, passed away.
