President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has awarded the 34th Separate Marine Brigade of the Ukrainian Navy the honorary name "Borysfen".

According to the document, the 34th Separate Marine Brigade of the Ukrainian Navy is now officially named the 34th Separate Marine Brigade "Borysfen".

The units of the 34th Marine Brigade of the Ukrainian Navy participated in the defense and de-occupation of Kherson region and the city of Kherson.

The decree states that the honorary name was awarded in order to "restore the historical traditions of the national army" and in view of the performance of combat missions in the defense of the territorial integrity and independence of Ukraine.

The brigade's units took part in combat operations in southern Ukraine, in particular during the defense and liberation of settlements in the Kherson region.

The name "Borysfen" is one of the historical names of the Dnipro River, which was used in ancient times.

The decree came into force on the day of its publication.

Earlier, President Zelensky awarded the 34th Regiment of the National Guard of Ukraine the honorary name"Kherson". The units of this military unit, as part of the Defense Forces, participated in operations to liberate Vysokopillia, the surrounding villages, and Posad Pokrovsky. On November 11, 2022, the National Guard was among the first to enter Kherson. After the de-occupation of the right-bank Kherson region, the unit's soldiers continue to perform combat missions and destroy the enemy on the left bank.

The President also awarded state awards to residents of Odesa, Mykolaiv and Kherson regions for their professionalism, courage and contribution to public life under martial law.
