On February 6, the agenda of the 74th session of the Izmail City Council includes the issue of terminating the lease of buildings and premises that house the infectious diseases department of the Central District Hospital of the Safianivka Village Council.

An Intent correspondent writes about this with reference to the relevant draft decision.

The document is titled "On Strengthening the System of Medical Care Provision by Medical Non-Profit Utility Companies of the Izmail City Council." According to it, the deputies will consider the termination of the lease agreement for a non-residential building with a total area of 4765.7 square meters at 3 Tykhyi Street in Izmail.

If the decision is made, the Communal Property Fund of the Izmail City Council must notify the Central District Hospital, Safianivka Village Council, the Department of Health of Odesa Regional State Administration, Izmail District State Administration and the National Health Service of Ukraine.

At the same time, Oleh Sadkovsky, CEO of the Central District Hospital and a member of the Izmail District Council, expressed concern about the possible consequences of this decision in a post on social media. According to him, the hospital staff has invested more than UAH 20 million in recent years in the development of the infectious diseases department, repair of premises and purchase of equipment.

He also recalled previous cases of transferring medical buildings in the city, which, in his opinion, were not used for their original purpose.

The staff built, repaired, and equipped the wards themselves. The state, region, or city took virtually no part in this," noted Sadkovsky.

He also drew attention to the role of the infectious disease department during the COVID-19 pandemic and seasonal outbreaks of infectious diseases, as well as the support provided by doctors to the Ukrainian military. The head of the hospital called on the MPs to prevent the loss of the medical unit and to preserve the professional staff in the face of war.

The issue has escalated amid competition between the Izmail City Central Hospital and the Central District Hospital of the Safianivka community for cluster status. The regional specialized commission has already supported the initiative to change the status of the Central District Hospital and forwarded it to the Ministry of Health for consideration.

The final decision on the lease of the building is expected to be made during the plenary session on February 6.

It should be added that if the hospital becomes a cluster hospital, it will receive a number of benefits, including

Cluster hospitals are defined as the key medical centers of the region, where specialized and emergency care is concentrated. Experts noted that the struggle for the status directly affects the allocation of resources in the district's healthcare sector, as well as the future of individual departments and medical teams.

Also in January, the Department of Housing and Communal Services in Odesa region summarized the results of a tender to select a contractor to restore the parking lot for heavy vehicles in Izmail.
