On August 8, a new temperature record for that date was set in Odesa. The maximum air temperature exceeded the previous record by 1.5°C, a record that had stood since 1963.

This was reported by the Hydrometeorological Center for the Black and Azov Seas.

In their report, meteorologists noted that Odesa was the last major city in the region to set a new temperature record this summer.

However, this refers specifically to the record for August 8, not the all-time high temperature in the city’s history of weather observations.

According to the Hydrometeorological Center, the highest air temperature in Odessa was recorded on August 12, 2010, when thermometers rose to +38.1°C. This figure remains the city’s all-time August record.

For the entire Odessa region, the all-time August high is +39.6°C, indicating that the region has repeatedly experienced periods of extreme heat.

In recent years, new temperature records have been set with increasing frequency in Odessa. In particular, by the end of June 2026, meteorologists had already reported a new record high temperature for June 28.

As a reminder, the maximum air temperature in the Odessa region on July 26, 2025, ranged from 31.2 degrees Celsius to 39.5 degrees Celsius.

According to meteorologists, the hottest location was Sarata—39.5 degrees Celsius—while the coolest was Pivdenne—31.2 degrees. Thus, Sarata and Bolhrad broke Odessa’s temperature record, which had been set in the city in 1985. At that time, meteorologists recorded 35 degrees Celsius on their thermometers.

However, on July 26, this record was not actually broken in Odessa itself. The average air temperature in the city reached 33 degrees Celsius.

In the Odessa and Mykolaiv regions, the condition of late-season crops has deteriorated dueto the prolonged heat andlack of rain. In some areas, crops had to be mowed or re-harvested due to plant wilting, the spread of diseases, and stunted growth.
