The case against the head of one of the departments of the Odesa Regional Traffic Police and Special Forces has been referred to court. He is suspected of involvement in a corruption scheme involving fuel vouchers.

This was reported by the press service of the National Police in the Odesa region.

A representative of a company approached the head of one of the departments of the Odesa Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support (TCR&SS).

He wanted to find out how to pay a fine for a man whom the TCC was searching for due to a violation of military registration rules. This man planned to get a job at the company, where he could obtain a deferment.

According to the investigation, the official offered to “resolve the issue” in exchange for a bribe. He requested vouchers for 500 liters of diesel fuel, worth nearly 45,000 hryvnias. In return, he promised to influence officials at the district Military Registration and Enlistment Office and the Joint Staff so that they would make the necessary decisions.

A representative of the company contacted law enforcement. Police, together with the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), documented the official’s actions.

He was detained while handing the vouchers to a subordinate. The subordinate was acting on the manager’s instructions and was unaware of his intentions. The vouchers were seized as physical evidence.

The court imposed a pretrial measure on the official—detention with the right to post bail. The bail amount was 599,000 hryvnias, which he paid.
