The head of the Kherson Regional State Administration acknowledged a shortage of accommodations for evacuated Kherson residents

<span><span><span><span><span><span>Due to the destroyed thermal power plant and the threat of a harsh winter, the Kherson regional authorities have called on residents to evacuate; however, there is a shortage of housing for evacuees in safe regions. </span></span></span></span></span></span><span><span><span><span><span><span>Currently, there are about 7,000 available beds in dormitories, public facilities, and social institutions across the country.</span></span></span></span></span></span>

<span><span><span><span><span><span>Since it is currently impossible to simultaneously evacuate and provide new housing for all city residents, families with children and people with limited mobility are being evacuated first. Options for accommodating more than 2,000 Kherson residents have already been identified. Arrangements have been made to settle families with children in the town of Hansen in the Kyiv region.</span></span></span></span></span></span>

<span><span><span><span><span><span>According to Oleksandr Prokudin, neither the national government nor the regions currently have enough ready accommodations to immediately house everyone who may need to leave in the event of a mass evacuation. At the same time, he noted that the authorities in the Kherson region, together with other regions of the country, continue to seek solutions. </span></span></span></span></span></span>

Earlier, due to the deteriorating situation in Kherson, local authorities urged people to evacuate. The city faces potential disruptions in basic utility services. 

According to Oleksandr Prokudin, the consequencesofRussianstrikeson critical infrastructure could be particularly severe this winter. It is no longer possible to count on thermal power plants and other critical infrastructure facilities operating as usual this winter.
