The Foreign Ministry called for the Russian "elections" in the occupied territories not to be recognized

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has called on the international community not to recognize the so-called Russian “elections” to the State Duma, which were held on September 18–20 in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, including Crimea and the Kherson region.

This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that holding Russian “elections” in the occupied territories violates Ukrainian law and international law. The ministry also called on the international community not to recognize these “elections” and to increase pressure on Russia.

The ministry specifically noted that the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol, as well as the temporarily occupied parts of the Kherson, Donetsk, Luhansk, and Zaporizhzhia regions, remain an integral part of Ukraine. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, no vote organized by Russia changes the internationally recognized status of these territories.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry also stated that Moscow may use the results of such “elections” in an attempt to legitimize further aggression and the continuation of the war.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on states and international organizations that adhere to international law and the UN Charter to condemn the holding of Russian “elections” in the occupied Ukrainian territories and not to recognize them as meeting democratic standards.

The day before, the Foreign Ministry compared the so-called Russian elections to a farce that has nothing in common with democratic elections.
