Environmental inspectors checked water quality at "Fregat" Beach in Kryzhanivka, Odesa Oblast, following reports of possible renewed pollution of the Black Sea. A sewer line rupture occurred there in June.

This was reported by the State Environmental Inspectorate of the Southwestern District.

Following media reports, inspectors traveled to the site and surveyed the waters near the beach. Near the storm drain outlet, they observed only signs of natural algae decomposition. No visual signs of pollution were found in the rest of the sea area.

Experts also collected seawater samples for laboratory analysis.

According to preliminary results, no ammonium nitrogen was detected in the samples. This specific indicator can suggest that sewage has entered the water.

The State Environmental Inspection noted that it continues to monitor the situation. Residents and vacationers are asked to report instances of possible marine pollution and, if possible, to send photos or videos. This will help verify the information and enable a quicker response.

In June, a sewer main rupture occurred in this area—at that time, ammonium nitrogen levels were found to be 4–6 times higher than normal. The inspection recorded the highest pollution concentrations in late June; since then, levels have been gradually decreasing.

The Fontanka Village Council allocated 4.5 million hryvnias to repair the broken sewer main, through which sewage was flowing into the sea. Prior to that, residents of the “Zelenyi Mys” housing complex had blocked the road because their basements were flooded with sewage.
