The director of Khersonelektrotrans was sentenced to 15 years for treason

The former director of the municipal enterprise “Khersonelektrotrans” and a city council member was convicted in absentia of treason under martial law. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison with confiscation of property. 

This is stated in the verdict of the Kherson City Court. 

The former official’s guilt was fully confirmed by the findings of linguistic and handwriting analyses, electronic correspondence with the occupiers, and the testimony of company employees. The start of his sentence will be counted from the moment of his arrest.

The investigation and the court established that during the temporary occupation of Kherson in 2022, the head of the municipal enterprise voluntarily defected to the enemy. No later than June 2022, he forcibly switched “Khersonelektrotrans” employees to receiving their salaries in Russian rubles. Thus, according to the investigation, he supported the occupation administration’s introduction of the so-called “dual-currency zone.”

The case file states that, on the convicted man’s personal orders, hostile propaganda posters were posted on city public transportation, calling on people to obtain Russian passports and justifying Russia’s aggression.

To fully subordinate the municipal transit system to the invaders, the official, according to the investigation, re-registered the enterprise in the Unified State Register of Legal Entities of the Russian Federation under the name “Khersonelektrotrans Municipal Utility Company.” The case file indicates that he also organized social payments from Russia for employees and the distribution of Russian “humanitarian aid.”
