The defendant in the "case of Crimean Muslims" is held in a pre-trial detention center

The father of 36-year-old Crimean citizen Ametkhan Abdulvapov, convicted by the Russian authorities and a defendant in the so-called 'Crimean Muslims case', said that his son is being held in a punishment isolation ward.

Ametkhan Abdulvapov is serving his sentence in the strict regime colony No. 2 in Angarsk, located in the Irkutsk region of Russia.

His father, Nedzhip Abdulvapov , suggests that his son, who suffered a stroke in early July, may have been beaten by employees of the Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN). It became known on July 17 that the prisoner suffered a stroke in the colony immediately after being transferred. According to his father, the man asked to send him heart medication, as the colony does not have the necessary drugs.

Abdulvapov noted that his heart problems began even before the stage when he was in prison in the city of Verkhniy Uralsk, and during the attacks of chest pain he was in unbearable pain. Ametkhan Abdulvapov was detained after Russian searches in February 2022, along with three other Crimeans. All of them were accused of participating in the Islamic political party Hizb ut-Tahrir, which is recognized as a terrorist organization in Russia but not banned in many other countries.

On March 15, 2023, a Russian court sentenced Abdulvapov to 10 years and 6 months in prison.

The imam from Alushta, convicted by the occupiers, returned home. According to Khalilov's wife Umida Khudoyberdieva, her husband was diagnosed with cancer in the hospital of the colony in Arkhangelsk. On the basis of this diagnosis, which is included in the list of diseases that prevent detention, the Isakogorsk District Court of Arkhangelsk ruled to release him.

After his release, employees of the Federal Penitentiary Service of the Russian Federation purchased train tickets for him, and he returned to his family in Crimea.
