The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has proposed to the parliament to change and establish the boundaries of the city of Podilsk in Odesa region.

The relevant draft resolution was published by the press service of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

In turn, the government's representative in parliament, Taras Melnychuk, explained that the draft resolution is generally aimed at consolidating the current boundaries of the city of Podilsk.

"This is necessary to create a full-fledged living environment and favorable conditions for the city's territorial development, to ensure the effective use of the potential of the territories while preserving their natural landscapes and historical and cultural value, taking into account the interests of landowners and land users," he said.

Podilsk is a city in Ukraine, the administrative center of the Podilska urban community and Podilskyi district of Odesa region, an important center of the southeastern part of the historical region of Podillia. The distance to Odesa is about 195 kilometers. On May 12, 2016, as part of the decommunization process, Kotovsk was renamed to Podilsk, given that it is located in the southeast of the Podilska Upland, within the historical Podillia region.

The project envisages increasing the city's territory by almost 148 hectares of land, while excluding these 148 hectares that are located within the city of Podilsk. As a result, the Cabinet of Ministers proposed to approve the city's territory of 2,544 hectares.

However, Wikipedia indicates that the city currently has an area of 25.44 square kilometers, i.e. the same 2,544 hectares.

In February 2022, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved a change in the boundaries of the city of Vilkovo, Izmail district, Odesa region, by 2,400 hectares. Also at that time, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved a change in the boundaries of the city of Izmail, Odesa region, reducing them by 223 hectares. Since then, the area has grown to 5,126 hectares.
