Ivan Boshkov, a judge of the Reni District Court, was found dead in the Odessa region; he had been released on bail in June in connection with a bribery case.

This was reported by Bessarabia INFORM.

According to the publication, the man took his own life. The judge’s body was found in a room in his own home.

The judge was accused of accepting an illegal benefit totaling 800 euros and 300 U.S. dollars—he was detained on March 5 while receiving the funds. His actions were classified under Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, and the case was transferred to the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU).

In June, the court released the man on bail of 500,000 hryvnias. Under the terms of the pretrial measure, he was required to remain under round-the-clock house arrest and wear an electronic ankle monitor.

According to media reports, the judge had recently been depressed and had barely communicated with anyone. The publication attributes this to his fears regarding a possible sentence in the case.

The circumstances surrounding Boshkov’s death are currently under investigation.

Intent reported on the judge’s case as early as March 2026. At that time, SBU officers detained Boshkov on suspicion of receiving an unlawful benefit, and the High Council of Justice subsequently approved his detention, deeming the evidence provided in the motion to be well-founded.

According to the investigation, on January 29, the Reni District Court received case materials concerning a driver from whom unmarked tobacco products had been seized, as well as regarding his administrative prosecution.

The judge offered the petitioner a bribe in euros to issue a ruling returning the seized property, hinting that the petitioner should “show some interest” in him to avoid confiscation. He was detained while receiving the money.
