On the night of August 9, Russian forces carried out one of their most massive strikes on the Odesa region, using 11 missiles of various types and up to 100 drones, including jet-powered drones and “Banderole”-type loitering munitions.
This was reported by the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to military officials, most of the missiles approached their targets along a ballistic trajectory, which makes them significantly more difficult to intercept.
As of 8:00 a.m., air defense forces had destroyed 72% of the enemy drones, as well as five out of six “Banderole” loitering munitions and one missile.
In addition, thanks to active countermeasures taken by the Defense Forces, three more Russian missiles failed to reach their targets. Their impact sites are currently being determined.
Despite the air defense efforts, missile and attack drone strikes were recorded at nine locations in Odesa and the Odesa region.
The Air Force also emphasized that, at the time this information was released, the enemy was continuing its attack using aerial weapons from the Black Sea, so residents were urged not to ignore air raid sirens and to remain in shelters.
As a reminder, the nighttime attack damaged infrastructure and residential buildings. In Odesa, several residential buildings in two districts were damaged and partially destroyed. Cars belonging to local residents were also destroyed or damaged by the fire.
According to preliminary data, eight people were injured. Medical personnel assess the condition of seven of them as moderate. Most of the victims sustained shrapnel wounds.
