No locust outbreaks similar to those in Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions have been recorded in Mykolaiv region.

This was reported by MykVisti.

Yaroslav Shydlovsky, head of the phytosanitary safety department of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection in Mykolaiv region, explained that locusts are a local species that is not dangerous in itself. The problem arises only when the number threshold is exceeded, when the pest can cause damage to crops. In the Mykolaiv region, there have been no such outbreaks so far, inspectors are constantly monitoring, and communities have received recommendations to inspect their territories.

If potentially dangerous foci are identified, the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection initiates a special control regime involving farmers and local residents. The situation remains under control and monitoring is ongoing. Shydlovsky also commented on the exaggeration of the criticality of the situation in Zaporizhzhia region, where large-scale treatment activities were indeed taking place.

Vadym Chaikovskyi, Deputy Head of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection, explained that the increase in locust numbers in the summer of 2025 is due to the war, climate change, and environmental factors, including abandoned land near the contact line and the destruction of the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant. He urged people not to dramatize the situation, as it is under control.

As a reminder , the locusts in Odesa region have already been exterminated, but the region remains under the control of the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection. In the Kherson region, after the locusts have been effectively exterminated, the restrictions are being considered for lifting. In Dnipropetrovs'k region, the number of locusts is within the economic threshold of harmfulness.
