In Mykolaiv, 14 students have started training to become tram drivers. They are taking theoretical and practical classes, and each of them is expected to be officially employed.

This was reported by the press service of Mykolaivelectrotrans.

Future tram drivers continue to acquire professional knowledge and skills. The training takes place at the company's training and production center.

Teachers try to explain all aspects of the tram driver's job in the most accessible way possible. The training program includes courses on "Construction and technical equipment of a tram", "Basics of passenger service rules", "Traffic rules" and "Basics of traffic safety".

According to Yurii Smetana, director of Mykolaivlectrotrans, 14 students are currently learning the profession of tram driver. Each of them receives a monthly scholarship of UAH 12,000, the opportunity to practice at the enterprise, and a guarantee of official employment.

Next week, practical classes will begin, where students, along with instructor drivers, will have to test their theoretical knowledge in practice.

Thanks to international partners, Mykolaiv is getting more municipal buses, but there is a shortage of drivers due to mobilization.

In September, a new training class for trolleybus drivers was opened in Mykolaiv. A scholarship is also provided for course participants. The classroom was equipped to meet modern requirements: it was overhauled, new furniture was purchased, models of trolleybus parts were installed, and the room was equipped with interactive equipment and tablets.

Previously, seven women of different ages and specialties in Mykolaiv Oblast were trained as tractor drivers. The girls are learning a new profession in the town of Snihurivka, which is known as the "agrarian land". The initiative is being implemented with the support of UNDP in Ukraine and the Danish government.

The war in Ukraine has exacerbated the shortage of workers, so the government decided to expand opportunities for women. The program provides free training in more than 30 specialties at the request of employers. Among the professions available for training are tram driver, machine operator, milling operator, renewable energy system installer, and more.
