Russian soldier who flew a drone and injured residents of Kherson region was sentenced to 12 years in prison

In May 2023, a Russian military serviceman and drone operator dropped explosives on residents of Odradokamianka, Beryslav district.

According to the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office, following a public prosecution by prosecutors of the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office, the Russian serviceman was found guilty of violating the laws and customs of war. The court sentenced him to 12 years in prison.

Prosecutors proved in court that in the spring of 2023, the 21-year-old private in the Russian army was involved by his command in combat missions using unmanned aerial vehicles. In May 2023, the convict was piloting a drone with equipment for remote dropping of VOG-17 type ammunition. He received images from the UAV in real time.

"The Russian serviceman would determine the target and drop the explosives. In particular, it happened when a man and a woman were walking down the street in the village of Odradokamyanka, Beryslav district. As a result of the targeted attack, the victim was seriously injured," the statement said.

On Tuesday, June 17, 2025, the Russian army, according to the head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration , Oleksandr Prokudin, has been massively attacking the Dniprovsky district of Kherson with drones since the morning. More than 10 people are injured and one is killed.

The day before, on June 16,<i> </i>, the Russian military continued to terrorize the Kherson region. At least 26 settlements came under attack from drones, artillery and aircraft. In particular, Antonivka, Bilozerka, Beryslav, Kachkarivka, Zmiivka and Prydniprovske. The occupants were shelling critical infrastructure and residential areas. Four people were injured as a result of Russian aggression. Among them is a 15-year-old teenager.
