Law enforcement officials have identified two Russian servicemen suspected of committing sexual violence against a civilian woman and other war crimes during the occupation of the Snigurivka community in the Mykolaiv region.

According to the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, both have been notified of the charges in absentia.

According to the investigation, the suspects served in military unit No. 74814 as part of the 205th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 49th Combined Arms Army of the Russian Federation’s Southern Military District. One of them was the commander of a deep reconnaissance platoon.

The investigation established that in October 2022, while in the temporarily occupied territory of one of the settlements in the Snigurivka community, the commander of the reconnaissance unit sexually assaulted a local woman.

According to the investigation, the other serviceman, together with two unidentified Russian soldiers, unlawfully seized a local resident’s passenger car without any military necessity.

In addition, in November 2022, according to law enforcement officials, he raped the same victim.

The platoon commander is charged with violating the laws and customs of war under Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The other suspect is also charged with violating the laws and customs of war, committed as part of a premeditated conspiracy by a group of individuals.

Recently, former police officer Volodymyr Plyukhin was found guilty of war crimes. The court found that during the temporary occupation of the Kherson region, he, together with Russian military personnel, tortured a local resident in an attempt to extract information from him about his collaboration with the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

Another court sentenced an employee of the Donetsk Drama Theater who, during the occupation of Kherson, served in the ranks of the illegal armed group “DNR” and was on duty at a checkpoint near the Antonivsky Bridge.
