Resident of Odesa region sentenced to probation for stabbing a military officer with a knife

Khadzhybeysky District Court of Odesa sentenced the man to five years in prison for obstructing the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and intentional light bodily harm, but replaced the actual term of imprisonment with a probationary period of three years.

As stated in the court' s verdict, on June 12, at about 19:00, the convict was walking down a street in Odesa and was stopped by representatives of the territorial center for recruitment and social support, who asked the man for his documents, but he sprayed tear gas at them and stabbed one of the soldiers in the chest.

The injuries were recognized as light. At the court hearing, the accused pleaded guilty in full and explained that he had indeed seen the vehicle following him under the circumstances and at the time and place indicated, and, having watched videos on the Internet of the boys being detained by TCC employees, decided to run away and not comply with the requirements of the TCC employees, namely not to provide his documents for verification. He started to run away, the TCC employees tried to catch up with him, when the victim ran up to him, he pulled out his folding knife and began to wave it, holding the knife in his right hand, did not immediately intend to harm, only wanted to scare him, but during this fight he waved the knife and stabbed the victim.

He understood that his actions while waving the knife could cause bodily harm, but continued to wave the knife in his hand, and the victim knocked him to the ground, during which he tried to use a tear gas can, but the victim took it away from him.

The accused voluntarily transferred UAH 250 thousand to the Armed Forces of Ukraine to compensate for his unlawful behavior towards the military, so he asked not to be punished severely.
