The Izmail City District Court of Odesa Region found a local resident guilty of committing a terrorist act and sentenced him to 12 years in prison with confiscation of all property.

As stated in the court' s verdict, the convict committed the terrorist act in the winter of 2016 by mining a VAZ-2101 car.

He parked the car near the railway station in the village of Novooleksiyivka, Henichesk district, Kherson region. As a result of the explosion, six people were injured and one person was killed. A car and business property were also damaged.

The native of Izmail was preparing to commit a terrorist attack in Russia, where he was taught to assemble explosive devices. After that, he returned to Ukraine, where he and his accomplice continued their training. They bought a VAZ-2101 car for the upcoming bombing in Odesa region for $300.

In February, a court in Odesa, at the request of the prosecutor's office, imposed a pre-trial restraint on a man suspected of preparing and carrying out a terrorist attack. He was taken into custody without the right to be released on bail. During the search, evidence of his connection with the enemy was found - correspondence and instructions for making an improvised explosive device. The perpetrator was promised USD 5 thousand for completing this task, of which he has already received USD 1 thousand on his bank card.

The investigation established that the terrorist attack was prepared by a 33-year-old unemployed man recruited by the enemy, who came to the attention of racists while looking for "easy money" on Telegram channels. The suspect purchased the bomb components in hardware stores. Then he made explosives out of them, which he equipped with a cell phone for remote detonation.
