Rescuer from Kherson region gets 14 years in prison for rescuing occupiers

(COLLAGE: Education)

The court sentenced a resident of Kherson region for collaborating with the occupiers in his position in an illegal law enforcement agency. Following a public prosecution by prosecutors of the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office, the man was found guilty of collaboration under Article 111-1, paragraph 7, of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

This was reported by the Kherson Regional Prosecutor's Office.

In addition to a 14-year prison sentence, the court ordered the man to confiscate his property and banned him from holding any positions in state or local government bodies of Ukraine for 14 years.

Investigators proved that in July 2024, the 38-year-old convict, while living in occupied Oleshky, voluntarily joined the service of the aggressor. He headed the so-called 'fire and rescue unit', which is part of the structure of the illegal 'Main Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations in Kherson region'. In this position, the collaborator was engaged in the implementation of Russian standards and norms in the work of the unit, in fact contributing to the strengthening of the occupation regime in the region.

Since the convict is currently hiding in the territory temporarily not controlled by Ukraine, his sentence will begin to run only after his actual detention. The special investigation in this case was conducted by representatives of the territorial department of the State Bureau of Investigation located in Melitopol.

Earlier, at a meeting of the board of the Kherson regional organization of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine (NUJU), it was decided to expel from the Union four people who collaborated with the occupation authorities or left Ukraine in the context of a full-scale war.

Among those expelled is Yuriy Bezukh, a well-known local historian from Nyzhni Sirohozy, who took an active part in propaganda activities organized by the occupation authorities. Also, Tetiana Nazarenko, who began to cooperate with the Russian administration during the occupation of Kherson and moved with the invaders to the Left Bank, was deprived of her membership in the NUJU.
