Reconstruction of the basement of a kindergarten in Kherson region was estimated at 135 million

The construction of a shelter in a kindergarten was initiated in Kherson region. The project was estimated at more than 135 million hryvnias.

This was reported by the Center for Public Investigations.

A project to reconstruct the basement of Zelenivskyi nursery school No. 47 in Kherson region to equip a modern shelter has been launched. The total area of the renovated space will be almost 894 square meters, which will allow for the simultaneous accommodation of 216 children and educators.

The project envisages a dual use of the premises: in peacetime it will serve as a safe educational space and in emergency situations as a shelter for the village residents. It will be equipped with a barrier-free environment accessible to people with limited mobility, modern engineering equipment, furniture and necessary equipment.

According to the DREAM ecosystem, the project budget is more than UAH 135 million, of which UAH 135.28 million is allocated directly for reconstruction and about 650 thousand for preparatory work. The operation and maintenance of the facility will require approximately 420 thousand hryvnias annually. The construction work is scheduled to take 10 months.

The goal of the initiative is to expand the fund of protective structures in preschools, ensure safe offline learning for children in the frontline city, and create conditions for families with children to return to the community. According to the organizers, the renovated shelter will increase safety and promote social resilience of the community in times of war. However, funding for the project has not yet been confirmed.

Last year, the contract for the construction of a radiation shelter for the State Educational Institution "Higher Vocational School No. 2 of Kherson" was canceled in Kherson. Kherson" worth UAH 82 million. The contractor was a company with frequent management changes, which had previously been involved in scandals due to embezzlement and cooperation with the aggressor.

Under the terms of the contract, the contractor had to build a one-story building for 296 people by August 2025. However, the Capital Construction Department of the Kherson City Council terminated the contract due to non-fulfillment of obligations.
