In Mykolaiv region, a Russian paratrooper was served a notice of suspicion for torturing civilians. Thanks to the work of the regional prosecutor's office, a serviceman of the 2nd Air Assault Battalion of the Russian Armed Forces (military unit 42091), who participated in war crimes, has been identified.

This was reported by the Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor's Office.

According to the investigation, the criminal activity of the defendant lasted from April to November 2022. During this period, during the temporary occupation of one of the villages of the Shyrokivska community of the Bashtanka district, the suspect, together with his accomplices from the Russian armed forces, illegally captured and detained four local civilians.

The captured men were subjected to brutal interrogations, physical force and threats of physical violence. In this way, the invaders tried to psychologically break the villagers and force them to give out information about the locations of Ukrainian Armed Forces units and the movement of Ukrainian defenders in the region.

Currently, all the necessary investigative actions and pre-trial investigation in this case are being carried out by the SBU Office in Mykolaiv region under the supervision of the Prosecutor's Office.

Earlier, two Russian soldiers were sentenced to prison terms for crimes against civilians in Mykolaiv region. These included murder and torture.

According to the investigation, the accused are soldiers from the 108th Air Assault Regiment of the Russian Airborne Forces, who took part in hostilities in the Bashtanka district of Mykolaiv region in 2022 during the temporary occupation of the village of Novopetrivka.

The investigation established that on March 21, 2022, the accused, realizing that they were in an international armed conflict, illegally detained two civilians. They used physical violence, threatened with weapons, tortured the victims with pliers and files, forced them to kneel, clamped their jaws and faces with their hands, and struck them with their feet, fists, and the butt of a rifle.

The crime of the accused was not limited to torture - during one of the episodes, the Russian military committed the intentional murder of a civilian victim (shot in the head). At the same time, another accomplice in the crimes inflicted severe bodily injuries on the victim, which caused severe physical pain.
