In Kherson, the population drops to approximately 55,000 people in the winter. During the summer, about 65,000 people live in the city. At the same time, the region is preparing for a possible escalation of the security situation and is strengthening its medical infrastructure.
This was reported in an interview by Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration.
According to him, the population of the regional capital currently hovers around 60,000. This trend has been observed for about three years: in the summer, the population rises to approximately 65,000, and in the winter, it drops to 55,000.
Prokudin also spoke about preparations within the healthcare system for potential Russian attacks. He noted that 16 underground hospitals have already been set up in the region, with another 13 currently under construction. Medical facilities are being supplied with medications, generators, and necessary equipment.

The Kherson region is also preparing to evacuate people with limited mobility who have been in hospitals for an extended period following the bombing of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant. They plan to transport them to a single facility in central Ukraine so as not to separate people who have grown close during their time together.
Prokudin noted that regional authorities have also mapped out potential evacuation routes in advance and reached agreements with other regions regarding the placement of evacuees. Among the regions ready to accept evacuees from the Kherson region, he mentioned Odesa and Mykolaiv.
