Police officer from Odesa region appointed to supervise colleagues in Khmelnytskyi region

Former deputy head of the Main Department of the National Police in Odesa region Ivan Ishchenko has been appointed head of the regional police department in Khmalnyk.

According to the Center for Public Investigations, the new chief was introduced to the police of Khmelnytskyi region on May 25.

Prior to this appointment, Ivan Ishchenko headed the Main Directorate of the National Police in Chernihiv Oblast since October 2023. Previously, he also headed the police in Vinnytsia region since June 1, 2020. Ivan Ishchenko has 21 years of experience in law enforcement.

Ivan Ishchenko began his service as an operative of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Tarutino District Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in Odesa Region. During his service in the Main Department of the National Police in Odesa region, he held positions from detective to the head of the Tarutino District Police Department (appointed in 2011).

In May 2014, Ivan Ishchenko was appointed Head of the Public Security Department of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in Odesa Region, and held this position until November 2015.

From November 2015 to June 2019, he was the Head of the Preventive Activities Department of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa Oblast. From June 2019 to June 2020, he was Deputy Head of the Main Department of the National Police in Odesa Oblast.

In February 2021, Vysokyi Zamok wrote about a banquet at a children's camp hosted by Ivan Ishchenko, then the head of the Vinnytsia regional police. The banquet was recorded by journalists, representatives of NGOs and activists of the Road Control.

Before that, activist and volunteer Roman Balan, citing his own data, claimed that Ivan Ishchenko coordinated separatists in the center of Odesa during the tragic events of May 2, 2014. However, when he was appointed to Vinnytsia, Ivan Ishchenko claimed that he did not coordinate the actions of the separatists, but rather opposed them and personally ordered the detention of Anti-Maidan supporters.
