The Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi City District Court sentenced a native of Kirovohrad region for illegal handling of weapons and ammunition - at the time of the crime, the man held the position of inspector of a special police battalion in Donetsk region.

This was reported by Bessarabia INFORM, citing the case file.

As the court found, around May last year, the accused, holding the position of inspector of the logistics and logistics department of the police battalion of the Main Department of the National Police in Donetsk region, purchased a large number of ammunition and weapons in an unspecified manner. He sent the arsenal by mail to his residence and registration addresses, where he illegally stored it until the law enforcement searches.

Among the seized items were a Kalashnikov rifle, an RPG-22 rocket-propelled grenade, live grenades and fuses, and tens of thousands of rounds of ammunition, most of which were of 7.62 mm and 5.56 mm caliber. In addition, the case involved armor-piercing ammunition, smoke grenades, silencers and a bracket for a night vision scope.

The defendant fully pleaded guilty, repented and actively contributed to solving the crime. The court took this into account, as well as his positive characterization, the presence of certificates and gratitude, including the award from the President of Ukraine "For the Defense of Ukraine", as mitigating circumstances. At the same time, no aggravating factors were found.

The court found the man guilty under Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced him to three years in prison. However, he was released from serving his sentence and placed on probation for 1 year. In addition, the court ruled to recover from the man more than UAH 180 thousand in procedural costs in favor of the state. Most of the seized property will be transferred to a military unit
