Police investigate shooting of people on Beryslavske highway in Kherson

Police in Kherson region are investigating the shooting of a civilian car by the Russian military on Beryslavske Highway in Kherson. Two local residents were killed in the shelling on March 1, 2022.

Investigators of the Department for Investigation of Crimes Committed in the Context of Armed Conflict of the Main Department of the National Police in Kherson Oblast are establishing the circumstances of the shooting of civilians in Kherson, which took place at the beginning of the full-scale invasion.

According to the investigation, on March 1, 2022, at about 11:15 a.m., on Beryslavske Highway in Kherson, Russian Federation servicemen opened fire on a blue VAZ 2101 civilian car. The shelling killed two local residents - a 48-year-old man and a 45-year-old woman.

Law enforcement officials emphasized that this crime is a gross violation of international humanitarian law, in particular the Geneva Conventions, which prohibit attacks on civilians during hostilities. The police are currently collecting evidence, establishing the circumstances of the incident and identifying the persons involved in the murder. Law enforcement officials are calling on citizens to help in the investigation.

If anyone witnessed the incident, has photos, videos or any information about the crime, investigators are asking to contact the Main Department of the National Police in Kherson region or report the information through any of the official police communication channels.

Each testimony, law enforcement officials emphasized, can become important evidence in an international investigation and help bring the Russian military to justice for the killing of civilians.

Recently, in the temporarily occupied part of the Kherson region, the Russian military brutally shot civilians. On the night of September 17-18, 2025, drunken invaders broke into a private house in the village of Kozachi Lageri of the Oleshky community and opened fire on civilians.

Three people died as a result of the attack - the spouses Tetiana and Viktor Hladki, as well as their neighbor Viktor Nadeev. According to preliminary information, members of the 11th Separate Guards Air Assault Brigade of the Russian Armed Forces may be involved in this war crime.
