The Kherson Regional Police have denied reports that a funeral service driver was detained after his documents were checked at a checkpoint. Law enforcement officials are currently reviewing the actions of the officers involved and searching for the man.

This was reported by the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Kherson region.

According to law enforcement, the incident occurred on October 22 in one of the settlements of the Velyka Oleksandrivka community. It is stated that police officers noticed two vehicles whose drivers abruptly turned off the main road before the checkpoint and, a few minutes later, re-entered it past the checkpoint.

According to the police, law enforcement officers stopped the vehicles. They stated that during the inspection, it was discovered that the minibus driver is a person who is intentionally evading military registration, a military medical examination (VLK), conscription during mobilization, and was wanted by the Regional Center for Conscription and Military Service in Kryvyi Rih.

As noted in the official statement, the police informed the man of his status and explained the next steps. According to them, the driver remained in the vehicle; law enforcement officers did not detain him or use any coercive measures.

The police noted that later, another driver reported that the minibus was transporting a coffin containing the body of a deceased relative for burial in a neighboring town. According to law enforcement, citizens later began transferring the coffin to a trailer, while one of the women present filmed the incident on her phone.

According to the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Kherson region, law enforcement officers explained that the driver could continue on his way. They said that a few minutes later, they received reports from witnesses that the minibus driver had left the vehicle and fled toward a wooded area.
