Pavel Kazarin Wins Taras Shevchenko Prize for Wartime Journalism Project

Crimean journalist and soldier Pavel Kazarin has won the Taras Shevchenko National Prize in the category of Publicistics.

The relevant decree was published on the website of the Office of the President of Ukraine.

The journalist received the award for his project "Wartime Journalism at Ukrayinska Pravda", which analyzes Russia's war against Ukraine, its impact on society, national identity, and the country's future.

The Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine or Shevchenko Prize is a state award of Ukraine founded in 1961. It is awarded for a significant contribution to the development of culture and art in the country. One person can receive the award once in a lifetime. It is awarded by the President of Ukraine based on the decision of a special committee.

Kazarin is also the author of the book The Wild West of Eastern Europe, which he released in November 2021. The journalist received a special mention of the Yuriy Shevelev Prize "for his virtuoso columnism and analysis of military reality." Kazarin's book was awarded the BBC Book of the Year - Essay - 2022 prize.

Earlier, two Kherson directors were shortlisted for the prestigious Les Kurbas Theater Award for 2025. The list includes 19 nominees in total, including Serhiy Pavliuk and Yevhen Reznichenko, who were recognized for their significant contribution to the development of contemporary theater in Ukraine.

Also, the book Night Train to Odesa: Illuminating the Human Cost of the Russian War by Scottish journalist Jen Stout was shortlisted for the Highland Book Prize.
