On August 14, a memorial service was held in Odesa for civic activist and soldier Serhiy “Roland” Konovalov, who was killed in 2022 during battles with Russian occupiers.

The event was attended by his family, friends, community leaders, and young people.

During the event, attendees reflected on Serhiy’s life and his involvement in the patriotic movement in the Odesa region. Event organizer Myroslava Bondarenko noted that Konovalov had become involved in patriotic movements as early as his childhood.

According to her, by the age of nine, Serhiy already had a well-defined civic stance and was interested in issues of Ukrainian statehood. As a teenager, he began actively participating in civic events, protests, and patriotic movements in Odesa.

“That’s why Serhiy was a unique person—at the age of nine, he already had that civic stance and was beginning to assert it. That is why he holds a special place in my heart and soul, which is why I decided to organize a memorial evening for Roland, Bondarenko explained.

Serhiy’s mother, Lada Konovalova, emphasized that it is important for her to preserve the memory of her son and to share his life values with future generations.

“I want the next generation to also keep this in their hearts. And most importantly—to love their country, their Ukraine, she said.

Maksym Trubnikov, frontman of the rock band “Druze Muzyko,” also performed during the event.

Serhiy Konovalov was born in 2000. As a teenager, he participated in the Odesa Maidan, was involved in civic activism, and later joined the military.

After high school, Serhiy enrolled in university but continued his military service. Following his father’s death, he returned to Odesa and planned to finish his studies. After the full-scale invasion began, he headed back to the front lines.

Serhiy “Roland” Konovalov was killed in 2022 during fighting on the border between the Mykolaiv and Kherson regions. He was buried in Odesa on July 16 of that year.

As reported by Intent, in October 2022, a memorial plaque in his honor was installed on the wall of Odesa School No. 92, where Serhiy had studied.
