Odesa Resident Charged with Illegal Land Occupation Near Protected Area

Investigators have sent to court an indictment against a resident of Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi district of Odesa region for unauthorized occupation of a land plot in a protected zone.

This was reported by the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa Oblast.

According to law enforcement officers, the man plowed land near the lake in the Tatarbunary community for further lease. Now the offender faces imprisonment.

The citizenwas exposed in early January. During the pre-trial investigation, law enforcement officers found that the local resident, without the appropriate permits, plowed a land plot of 13,420 square meters near Lake Sasyk, which is located within the water protection zone.

"Having gathered enough evidence, we charged the offender with unauthorized occupation of a land plot in a protected zone. This crime is classified under Part 2 of Article 197-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and is punishable by up to two years in prison. The pre-trial investigation, which was conducted under the procedural supervision of the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi District Prosecutor's Office, has been completed and the indictment has been sent to court," said Eduard Kolomiets, head of Police Department No. 2 of the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi District Police Department.

Earlier, a 20-year-old resident of the Budzhatska community was suspected of illegally creating an artificial reservoir on a stream belonging to the water fund. The police found that in August last year, without the necessary permits, he organized dredging to create a reservoir for irrigation of his own land. To do this, he hired workers with equipment, convincing them that his actions were legal.

Earlier, Intent wrote that in the Bolhrad district of Odesa region, a 33-year-old man illegally built sheds for keeping cattle in the border area. He was charged with unauthorized seizure of land and construction in the zone of special land use regime. The accused faces a maximum sentence of three years in prison.
