Odesa region: Police expose two organizers of illegal transfer of men abroad

Two residents of the Rozdilnyansky district of Odesa region were detained by police together with border guards.

According to the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Odesa Oblast, the 30- and 39-year-old men promised an Odesa resident to take him closer to Moldova and provide information on how to cross the border bypassing the guards. The dealers estimated their services at 3 thousand dollars.

The police documented how the organizers met the client in Rozdilnyanskyi district, kept him in the house until dark, and drove him towards the border at night, showing him the further independent route on the map in the phone.

Law enforcement officers detained the criminals when they received the agreed amount for their services from the client. Investigators seized the money illegally obtained by the criminals, their cell phones and the car they were using.

According to Kateryna Abkhinadze , the investigator in the case, the men were served a notice of suspicion under Part 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, namely, organizing the illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine, facilitating their commission by advice, instructions, committed by prior conspiracy by a group of persons and for mercenary motives. This crime is punishable by imprisonment for up to nine years with disqualification to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years with confiscation of property.

The court imposed on the suspects a pre-trial restraint in the form of detention with the right to be released on bail in the amount of UAH 242,240, which one of them used.

Earlier, the Rozdilnyansky District Court of Odesa region found a former law enforcement officer guilty of illegally transporting persons liable for military service across the state border and sentenced him to two years in a disciplinary battalion.
