Odesa Municipality Official Attacked with Bat, Suffers Fractured Arm

Unidentified persons attacked an official of the Odesa municipality and beat him with a bat, breaking his arm and bruising his head.

The attack was confirmed by the Main Department of the National Police in Odesa Oblast.

According to the police, the incident occurred on February 24, in the evening, in the courtyard of a high-rise building in the Peresypsky district.

The 42-year-old man was attacked by an unknown person, beaten and fled. The victim was hospitalized with a preliminary diagnosis of a bruised head wound and fractures of the forearm bones.

Investigators of the territorial police unit opened a criminal proceeding over the incident under Part 4 of Article 296 (hooliganism) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Law enforcement officers are identifying the offender and all the circumstances of the crime.

The police have not identified the victim, but social media and media claim that it is Igor Slyusarenko, head of the city council's advertising department.

Odesa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov appointed Ihor Slyusarenko to head the department in March 2021. At the time, some media linked the official to city council member Iryna Kutsenko, calling him her godfather.

Earlier, police detained a man who had inflicted bodily harm on a serviceman on Italian Boulevard in Odesa. The incident occurred on February 22. It has been preliminarily established that a 28-year-old resident of Berezovsky district started a conflict with the military personnel of the territorial center for recruitment and social support during the verification of documents. The man sprayed tear gas in the face of one of the soldiers and made several shots in his direction with a weapon, preliminary, of traumatic effect, after which he fled.

The police also began investigating the circumstances of a conflict between two women that occurred in the office of an Odesa regional organization. It has been preliminarily established that a 56-year-old employee of the organization's office in the Peresypskyi district and a 72-year-old visitor had a verbal conflict that escalated into a fight. Both women appealed to the police.
