Odesa Missile Strike Causes ₴1B in Damage, Air Pollution Hits 416M

Specialists from the State Environmental Inspectorate of the Southwestern District investigated the consequences of the missile strike on Odesa by the Russians on March 10, 2025, and estimated the total damage at more than a billion hryvnias.

As the inspection emphasized, 416 million is the cost of damage caused by air pollution.

The fact is, however, that as a result of the shelling of industrial infrastructure in the Khadzhybey district of Odesa, a fire broke out at an operating oil depot.

Fuel tankswere burning - almost 6,000 tons, which means thousands of tons of pollutant emissions that were released into the atmosphere:

In addition, the shelling resulted in the contamination of land plots of more than 20 thousand square meters. The damage caused by the pollution amounted to UAH 626 million.

The air attack on Odesa by Russian troops on the night of March 11 ended with the burning of a children's toy warehouse, a residential building, and a fuel tank. On the night of March 11, 2025 (from 19.00 on March 10), the enemy attacked with an Iskander-M ballistic missile and 126 Shahed-type strike UAVs and various types of imitation drones. Iskander-M and 79 Shahed attack drones and other types of drones were shot down in Kharkiv, Poltava, Sumy, Chernihiv, Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Vinnytsia, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Odesa, and Kherson regions.

The Odesa municipality then addressed the citizens with recommendations to protect themselves from excessive outdoor activities for some time due to significant air pollution in the city.
